The Latke and the Hamantash at the Fifty-Yard Line


One of the epic battles in Jewish history involved not the Greeks, Romans or Egyptians. It did not make use of sword, spear or machine gun. Indeed, the great debate of Hamentasch or Latke has raged for centuries, but only recently has it come to the forefront with great intelectuals and academics extolling the virtues of either one.


According to Alan Dershowitz, the Latke has increased United States dependence on foreign oil. However, according to literature professor Diana Henderson, "The latke is appropriate for lyric, tragic, and epic forms", but "There is very little poetry in the prune," a common hamentashen filling
